Rick Springfield is the worst kind of person.  Simply stated, he is a dick.  Everyone loves that song, 'Jessie's Girl'.  If you don't, we will probably never be friends.  Its a great song.  The riff is simple and amazingly catchy.  The chorus is 10x catchier. That being said...

Have you ever taken the time to think about how much it sucks to be Rick Springfield's friend Jessie?  I've been guilty of having feelings for a friend's girlfriend, it fucking happens sometimes...but do you know what I didn't do about it?  I DIDN'T WRITE ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS IN 1981.   I DIDN'T WRITE A SONG ABOUT IT THAT STAYED #1 ON THE BILLBOARD TOP 100 FOR OVER 2 WEEKS.  I DIDN'T WRITE A SONG ABOUT IT THAT WON MYSELF A GRAMMY FOR BEST MALE ROCK VOCAL PERFORMANCE.

To give Rick a little bit of credit, his friend "Jessie" was really named Gary.  Rick, Gary, and Gary's girlfriend were taking a stained glass class together.  He immediately became smitten.  He wanted to write the song with the name 'Gary', but at the last minute he saw a girl in a softball jersey with the name 'Jessie' on it and changed it at the last minute...way to go Rick...you are basically a saint.  Thanks for being so cryptic.  No one could ever break that code.  It probably took super computers running for the rest of the 80's to figure that one out...oh, wait...YOU WENT ON OPRAH AND TOLD EVERYONE!!!
